A variety of events took place in Scoil Eoin to mark Science Week 2016! The infant classes explored magnetism, the properties of materials and planting watercress seeds.
1st Class also explored the properties of magnets and did an experiment to see if magnets would be attracted to one another through various materials such as wood, plastic paper. They also created their own bubble mixture and made bubble wands using straws, pipe cleaners, string and fishing line!
The students in 2nd and 3rd took on the topic of electricity and made simple circuits using batteries, cables, alligator clips and mini light bulbs. They also created their own loop the loop buzzer game!
4th Class had a visit from Sean Twohig who spoke about the role of engineers and the various different types of engineering. Elaine Garde visited from the Heritage in Schools project and spoke about native Irish trees, environmental awareness and care and showed the children how to made seed bombs with clay.
5th and 6th class developed their scientific skills in the area of Horticulture and enjoyed a visit from Eoghan who informed them about ocean life. The 5th went on to further their studies with a project entitled "How Oceans Affect Climate" while 6th Class worked on their project "Plastics in the Ocean".
Science week was a HUGE success. Thank you to all involved!
